fruta Feia ("ugly fruit") #001
Fruta Feia is a co-operative that "[...]aims mainly to channel that part of the wasted fruits and vegetables to consumers who do not judge the quality by its appearance, thus fighting a market inefficiency and creating a movement that can change consumption patterns and that can create a market to the so called “ugly fruit”."
Their motto is "beautiful people eat ugly fruit", and I love it. They offer weekly deliveries at their delivery points and I always pick it up on Wednesdays, which also forces me to get out of the house, which I appreciate.
They offer small baskets (about 3 kg, 4 kg) and big baskets (about 7 kg, 8kg) for €4 and €8, respectively, of fresh fruit and vegetables that the big distribution channels don't buy from farmers.
Here's what I got this week:
On the top row, from left to right: Persimmons, tângera (a cross between tangerine and orange), reineta apples, onions, potatoes (mandatory "I have to restart my potatoes!)
On the bottom row, from left to right: two huge heads of brocolli and pak-choi.
