no-buy 2025, january review
Back in December, I wrote about my intentions of doing a no-buy challenge in 2025. To keep some public accountability, I think I'll do monthly reviews to see if I'm sticking to my goals and if they still make sense to me.
When it comes to books, I'm surprised to say that I haven't bought any new books for me this year. I've bought three books, but they're all gifts for other people. I believed it would be much more difficult to follow through on this, but I've been happily reading on my Kobo and taking advantage of library loans to read comics.
I've also not bought any video games. Me and M have played Mario Kart a few times, and I've played Football Manager 2024 for 45 minutes, but I haven't felt the urge to play, to be honest. And if I do, I think I'll play the Uncharted games for the fourth time, and I already own them.
Also, no new purchases when it comes to vinyl records. Like I said in the original post, I won't get any records until we get a new record player. Since that's not a priority at all, I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up not getting any records this year.
Finally, alcohol. I'm delighted to report that I had no drinks in December, and I only had two glasses of wine and a sip of champagne on New Year's Eve and on a birthday on January 8th. Other than that, I've had a few non-alcoholic beers. I've come a long way since doing a Dry February two years ago. I no longer feel any urge or need to drink alcohol and have embodied the motto of "the only drink I can say no to is the first one". Since I come from a long line of alcoholics—some worse than others—I'm happy that I managed to break that cycle.
