weekend schmooze 006
The past week wasn't that great, to be honest. While it started great, since I got the chance to watch "Interstellar" on IMAX (what an experience!) the rest of the week was just... meh. I slogged through work and didn't get out of the house much, which tends to be an indicator of how good or bad I feel.
If I'm feeling good, I get outside and do a ton of things. If I'm not feeling good, I won't do anything, even though I know going outside or just doing stuff at home could make me feel better. Being a human being, am I right?
I did create a few drafts in Obsidian for future posts, which is nice. This blog has given me a creative outlet that I had been searching for for some time. It feels enjoyable to sit at my desk and create something instead of falling prey to doomscrolling on Reddit.
📚 Reading
- "História do Novo Nome", the second book in Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan Novels series, keeps on getting better and better. I'm now ~70% done and I'm very curious about what's in store for Lenú!
- Picked up "Como Antes" by Alfred from the library, but I still have to finish "The Waiting".
📺 Watching
- Watched "Interstellar" on IMAX. This was special to me, since I had never seen it at the cinema, let alone on IMAX. It was a great experience that was only shadowed by the sea of people at the mall after I got out of the movie place. Have I ever told you that I hate malls, especially the big ones? Because I do. I refuse to believe that we as a species have evolved to spend days and weekend shopping at these places.
- Finished Season 2 of "Midnight Diner". I'm still loving it, and I'll finish Season 3 before watching the two standalone movies.
- We are now watching the Portuguese version of "Masked Singer" after dinner. It's a nice show to unplug after a long day, but we skip through a lot of the fluff and the commercials. A "two hour" episode is composed of 45 minutes of ads! It's ridiculous.
- We also watched the latest episode of Abbott Elementary, which is one of our favourite shows here at home!
- I also watched the first two episodes of "Rainn Wilson and the Geography of Bliss", which is more relaxed and interesting that I was expecting! It's not life-changing, but I'm enjoying it.
🚲 Wandrering
- I cycled 22 km this week, but only 0.65 of those kilometers were new to me. Still, I revisited a part of the town that I rarely get to see and found some interesting new restaurants and shops.

- on nintendo by Ava. I knew all about Nintendo's drama and shitty behaviour with the emulation scene and them being super protective (and aggressive) with their IP, but this post felt like opening a can of worms. We only got a Switch last year, so we look at Switch 2 as the console we might get in five years or so, but this made me want to get it used instead of new. I always look for used stuff instead of new, but now I don't even want to consider giving money directly to Nintendo.
- The Soundtrack of My Life by Brandon. While I don't believe I could associate so many years of my life with songs or albums, Brandon did it remarkably. Reading this felt like peeking through a window and seeing some of Brandon's life through music (duh, it's in the title).
- Driving by Lou Plummer. The bit about his dad driving around with Lou's step-mother got to me. Normally, I don't like to say "that's love" about people I don't know in person, but... that has got to be love. I lost a grandmother to Alzheimer's and dementia, and my other grandmother has been struggling with the same issues for a couple of years. And I'm afraid my parents, even though they're yet to turn 60, are showing some early signs as well. I don't know if it's just me being hyperaware of any symptoms, but it sucks to think that I may see them going through the same thing.
